Ann and I still reside in Bakersfield as does our daughter Christina and her husband Jeff Bussman. Our two granddaughters are now 9 and 17 with the older one, Carissa, going into her senior year. I still work for the Kern Community College District where I take care of all the telephone systems as well as the video communications. Nice thing about the job is that it takes me to our campuses at Bishop and Mammoth about every 6 weeks. Ann and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary over the 4th of July, doesn’t really seem that long ago. Would like to hear from some of our old long lost friends from years past!

Clement, Ann (McDade) - e-mail: anniemk@pacbell.net

We are still living in Bakersfield; I manage the telecommunications department for the Kern Community College District which included campuses from Porterville to Bishop, and Mammoth. I get to Bishop every so often on business, working on the new campus at both Bishop and Mammoth. Ann is very successful with her Mary Kay business having just won her third Cadillac. She received some well deserved recognition at the national seminar in Dallas this summer. We do enjoy getting to Bishop as often as we can, but for the first time in over 50 years we have no family there. We moved my mom in with my sister this summer due to health problems. Our son Todd and his wife Cheryl live and work in the Santa Barbara area. Todd manages the digital imaging lab for Brooks Photography Institute. Our daughter Christina and her husband Jeff Bussman (a Bishop kid) live here in Bakersfield where they are building a new home. Jeff is a realtor and Christina is in her 9th year of teaching school. Our two granddaughters we get to see everyday, Carissa who is a freshman in high school and Makayla who is a very active 6 year old. Ann and I are enjoying life, getting to travel some in the little Miata that Ann bought for me and in general very busy with life. We would enjoy hearing from "old" Bishopites our e-mail is wlcwlc@pacbell.net and anniemk@pacbell.net .

Stoutenburg, Sue (Butler) - E-mail: sue.rfn@usamedia.tv

After graduation I went to nursing school at LA County-USC Medical Center. Moved to the SF Bay area in 1968. Went to work at Stanford Hospital/Medical Center. Met my husband Gordon Rosno and had two daughters, Melissa in 1974, and Sara in 1977. I worked in the fields of clinical and cancer research, infectious diseases, and cesarean childbirth. My husband died of thyroid cancer in 1984.

In 1986 I married Gary Stoutenburg who worked in Bishop with my sister Virginia, and moved back to Bishop. (Never say never!) We have been married for 15 years and love living in Bishop. I am a nurse with Inyo County Health. My various jobs center around being a nurse educator/ prevention programs manager. I work with programs dealing with HIV education, teen pregnancy, and Hepatitis B & C education and enjoy working in the schools, juvenile detention center, jail, probation and community. I also enjoyed working with my longtime friend, Shelly Robirds (Whitmore, class of 66) who was the Supervising Public Health Nurse until June 2003. ( Then she up and married Jim Taplin, a teacher at BUHS. They retired, built a new home in Garnderville, and moved in June.)

My daughter Melissa graduated from Long Beach State and, with a partner, has an internet advertising company-ADBROKERZ.com in Long Beach. Sara is working at the Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, California. She finished with her degree in accounting in April, 2002 and now lives with her boyfriend, Pat in their new home in Vista, California.

In my spare time I served on the Bishop High Board of Directors for almost 10 years. I also have chaired the BUHS Alumni Association for over 13 years. We give out scholarships every June to graduating seniors who have a BUHS alumni for a parent. We could use help with a newsletter, membership, and also for a new chairman. =-) Anyone interested please e-mail me.

I've lived in the Atlanta area for 24 years and have two grown daughters living in Fresno and Visalia. Was divorced in 1990 and re-married in 1992. Activities beyond work include, running, house and yard work with related hobbies, chores and acquired skills, and my favorite, playing the Scottish bagpipes, sometimes called the Great Highland Bagpipe. I play for lots of private functions (weddings, parties, funerals and corporate affairs) as well as with The Atlanta Pipe Band. The band's web site can be viewed at http://atlantapipeband.com/ and contains lots of cool stuff about the band as well as Scottish piping and drumming in general.

Distel, Barbara - e-mail: Beeazee@home.com

Although I live in Sacramento California near the suburb of Elk Grove, I still consider Bishop to be my "Home Town" where my mother, Dorothy (Rickey) Distel continues to reside as well as my brother Dick, who lives in Crowley Lake.

I recently retired from California Youth Authority. I worked for 27 years as a Youth Correctional Counselor. The last 19 years, I specifically dealt with incarcerated, seriously emotionally disturbed Youthful Offenders in an intensive counseling program where I specialized in providing treatment to inmates who exhibited suicidal or self destructive behaviors or who were otherwise diagnosed with disabling mental health disorders.

Although I had a very productive and satisfying career for the most part, I am really enjoying retirement and all the luxuries that accompany what is now a permanent vacation.

I am looking forward to our 35th Reunion and would enjoy hearing from others who attended BUHS.

Kemp, Karen (Self) - e-mail: Kmudmop@onlinemac.com

Hi. Bruce and I were married 34 years ago and are still together. We have five children Catherine, Donna, Heather, Sean and our youngest Kevin who just graduated from High School this year. We bought a small family farm in Sheridan Oregon four years ago after our last surviving parent passed away. When we first left bishop we went to San Diego where Bruce did his Viet Nam thing in the Navy and we moved back and forth from San Diego to Alameda Calif. depending on where he was stationed at the time. Thus our first and second daughters were born one in each place. When Bruce got out he got a job with DWP and we lived for a while in Tujunga calif. just in time for the huge earthquake there. Then he was transferred to Boulder City Nv. where we had our next daughter and son. Finally we got to move back to the valley and lived at the gorge for a while and our children got to know the valley we all love. Sadly we left our beloved valley for new horizons and Bruce went to work for another company. We moved to Yerington NV. for two years then on to Silver Springs NV. where our final son was born. Once more the wanderlust hit and we moved to Reno Nv. where we lived for 13 years and I worked for Harrah's hotel as a housekeeping clerk. Both our fathers passed away, leaving us both with ill, so we stayed as close to them both as we could and helped out till 4 years ago when Bruces mother passed away a year after my Mother. We pulled up stakes sold the house, and moved to a small town called Sheridan Ore. Population 6800 but 2000 of them are inmates at the federal prison here. We wanted our youngest son to know the joys of country living and to be able to go to a small school. He graduated this year and is heading for college in the fall. We have 3 grand children , two girls and a boy, and in a few months our oldest daughter is adopting two little girls so that will make it officially 5 . I work at Goodwill Industries in the town of McMinnville and Bruce is a Security supervisor at a lumber Mill. I have severe degenerative arthritis in both now so I have to use a walker quite often, but I manage to keep going.I still love to fish, and swim, go to the beach (only 30 miles away), and love to take care of my small flock of sheep, goats, dogs cats and assorted creatures,. Would love to hear from old friends and plan to attend this reunion. Snail mail address 16800 SW Gopher Valley, Rd., Sheridan OR 97378

Latham, Mel - e-mail: mclatham84@hotmail.com

Hello Classmates. I have some changes to make to my previous posting; got married, moved, changed jobs, just small stuff, mind you. Here's what's new: I joined most of the class of 66 for our 35th year reunion and had a blast. Lord, but you're a great lot to be a part of!

Following the reunion, I started dating a nice lady up here in Tacoma. She's an engineer with WSDOT and since I've been around construction quite a few years too, we speak the same language. We pretty much hit it off and got married in 2002.

I'm still an engineer tech, but I'm working for the Corps of Engineers now and love it. Most of my work is civil though, rather than electrical, but I still keep my electrical license up to date. I'm presently working to get ICC Certified as a residential and commercial electrical inspector.

My wife's name is Dale, she and I love to travel. We drag around a 28' travel trailer and one of our off-road toys on lots of adventures. In the past four years, we've seen the west from the coast to the Rockys; Canada to New Mexico. (Our favorite restaurant is El Pinto, in Albuquerque). And yes, we've been through Bishop a few times too. It's still one of the best mountain towns on the map, and number one in my heart.

Sorry we couldn't make it to our 40th reunion, but I hear (and see) that you had a great time. A wine tasting theme - what a cool idea! Hope I can help the committee with our 45th.

Living here in western Idaho, in a little town called Fruitland. Don't laugh, Saturday Night Live has already done a number on us. We are the home of the Gay Way Mall. Fruitland is a little town with one stop light, near Ontario, Oregon. If that doesn't ring a bell, how about Boise Idaho? Boise is about 55 miles south of Fruitland. Snake river is about 2 miles from where I live. I've lived here for almost 6 years and love the area. Nice change from Junction City, Oregon. I can see the stars for the first time in a long while!! I'm not alone here, there are some Bishop folks here. I'm sure you all remember the Milovich brothers. Fish and Rabbit. They live down the road about 30 miles. There are many folks in this area that attend the Mule Days event every year. Keep it up Bishop! Retired and loving it. Wish I were 65 so I could be on medicare?? Who said that? Would like to hear from class members.

Left Bishop in 1979 with two small kids and set out on my own. Lived in SLC, UT for 4 years then 12 years in So. Calif near the beaches. Moved to WA in 1993 from So. Calif, like the green but miss the sunshine!!! Not to mention the food and the shopping.

I work as financial planner in a credit union, and my business continues to flourish. My two little ones?? Son Joel just graduated from WSU in May '99 and Kristen is a pediatric nurse married and lives in Victorville Calif. Not a grandma yet and no hurry, please. The first 50 years ???? Ummm lots of intersting stories.....some fun, some very painful, but all have helped me grow. I am a spiritual person but not an overly religious one. I am single again and looking MOST forward to my 50th birthday in Oct and the next 50 years.....Life is good. Hugs and warmth to all my pals, each of you helped form my life and gave it greater value. Bishop means to me not just the beauty of the area, but the beauty of the memories of each of you. My brother Terry told me about the alumni website. I brought it up and it was interesting to see how many people I know had regestered. It seems like a great way to keep in touch with old friends. I am currently living in Reno, Nevada. I have been here since 1968. I am single with two grown children, Katherine age 26 and Ken age 24. I am retired from the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration after 23 years. I opened My law practice here in Reno in 1993 and currently practice in the criminal law and federal administrative law areas. I recently purchased two other businesses in the Reno area so I have plenty to keep me busy during my retirement. I have not been back to Bishop since our 25 year class reunion at which time I enjoyed seeing many old friends. Hope to hear from you soon.

It’s great to see what our classmates have been up to. As for me, leaving Bishop was a whole new adventure. I worked for the Gov’t in the Washington, D.C./Virginia area and the San Francisco Bay area for a number of years, and then moved to Pollock Pines, Calif. where I worked for a CPA for 12 yrs.

Since my husband’s family lives in Nebraska and we had not spent a lot of time with them, we quit our jobs, sold our home and in July 1993 moved to Nebraska !!! Yes, it was a huge change for me, but a very important one to be near family.

I now work as a Business Manager for an educational service unit which employs about 80 teachers, counselors, psychs & computer personnel.

I really miss the Bishop area, and hope to visit in the very near future. Until then, I’d like to hear from any of our BUHS classmates.

I now live in North Hills Ca., in the North San Fernando Valley. I am currently working for the Los Angeles Community College District, West L. A. College in Culver City, just north of LAX.

I really miss Bishop and hope that there will be a reunion this year as I would like to see everyone again. It seems like this is the only time we find to get together with our classmates.

Frazer, John - E-mail: Christowned@sonic.net

I started at BUHS after a few traumatizing years in southern California schools. I was a shy student looking for relief from the threatening, immoral world of schools immersed in gang mentality. I desperately wanted to escape the constant demand from peers to participate in the macho world of fighting, drinking, swearing, and sex. Although these pressures still existed at BUHS, they were mild in comparison to the schools I attended in southern California. I never quite felt welcome at BUHS, but because of the high standards of the school and the small class size, it was easy to be friendly and avoid the "demand" to do the things I considered wrong. Those who have not experienced that "demand" to a strong degree will not appreciate how comfortable it was at BUHS. Even though BUHS had higher standards it was not invulnerable to the immoral influence of the '60s and some of those influences snuck in to it and the community. Because of my struggles to resist the pressures toward violence, cheating, and abuse of others, I was ripe for the '60s influence. By the time I graduated from high school I was looking for a better society. I was a prime candidate for the "hippie" movement and I ended up a "flower child" in San Francisco. While there I tasted and observed the variety of lifestyles and religions offered. After a while it became obvious that we "hippies" were not any more capable of being a better society than anyone else. Drugs just allowed people to ignore the problems until they were ruined by the drugs. The natural beauty of the country of the Eastern High Sierras has always been an inspiration to me and an encouragement to high standards. Even in the midst of my worst times the memory of that inspiration would draw me and I would return to the area for a visit. Remembering that inspiration I left the "hippie scene" to go back to the "higher" morality of nature. Then, through an acquaintance from BUHS, I met a group of "real" Christians. I had met "Christians" before and had despised them for their hypocrisy, for they had not been any different than the rest of us. But these Christians were different. They actually believed what the Bible said and so they disciplined themselves to live it! After a period of watching and testing them I concluded that Christ must be real and I tried believing in Him as they did. I found out He was real and I finally found the answers to my search for a better society. I eventually became a minister and have worked in numerous places around California. Meanwhile I also "supported myself" with various secular careers from mailman to programmer/analyst.

Presently I am "between jobs" and live on a sailboat on San Francisco Bay. Correspondence is welcome.

Getts, Tom - E-mail: getts@mindspring.com

Finally made it back to some beautiful mountains after living in SE Texas for 22 years! I live between Durango and Cortez in far SW Colorado, right next to the La Plata Range of the Rockies. It's not the Sierras, but it's very, very beautiful.

Started out at Harvey Mudd College, majoring in physics, the moved to UC Riverside, where I got my B.S. in Geophysics. Then, on to the University of Hawaii for graduate school, where I got to see the world on the University's oceanographic ship, and eventually got an M.S. in Geology and Geophysics. Many years later, went back to school to get a degree in Computer Information Systems/Computer Software.

Work for GeoQuest/Schlumberger as a Project Geoscientist and Database Administrator. Also formed TRG Technologies in 1996 - consulting firm for Internet/Web consulting, scientific consulting, and Oracle database administration services. Formed Canyon Winds Consulting in 1999 - web design and hosting.

Married - no kids - 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse

I last visited Bishop about eight years ago and found it still to be a delightful place, and not as changed as I might have expected. It was great fun to see some of my "old" high school friends! I would love to hear from any of my BUHS friends!

Haskins, Jim - E-mail: jhaskins@nsn.k12.nv.us

Graduated from Humboldt State in Arcata, CA. Worked in a plywood mill there until I got a teaching and coaching job in Elko County School District in Elko, NV. Worked at Owyhee, NV for four years, Elko High School for eight years and I am completing my eighth year at Spring Creek High School this year. Married my wife Liz while at Humboldt in 1974. We have a son with one more year to go at Boise State, a daughter with two more years to go at Boise and a son who is a junior at Spring Creek High School. Liz is a second grade teacher. I teach Biology and coach basketball and baseball. Miss Bishop, but Elko is just like the Owens Valley with all the sagebrush and the Ruby Mountains (our version of the Sierras). Think of our class a lot. Don't make it to Bishop too often, but see various people when we are at the same basketball or baseball tournaments as Bishop teams. Hope you are all doing well.

I was wondering if there would be a 35 yr. class reunion. I've been a little out-of-touch with the BUHS alumni.

Salinger, Kathy Hannigan Skaggs - E-mail: kls@tomatoweb.com

Hi! After I graduated from BUHS, I went straight to Long Beach to a private business college. A year later I married Marty Skaggs - another BUHS graduate. Marty and I divorced after about 12 years of marriage. We had two sons. Andy (31) and Tom (29). Andy is married to Teri, a special education teacher here in the Sacramento area. No children. Andy has an undergraduate degree from U.C. Davis in Genetics, a Masters Degree from Sac State in Microbiology, and working on his second Masters in Computer Science. He is a computer programmer. Tom works for.... Intel - without a college degree and doing quite fine. He is separated and has a seven year old son. He also lives in the Sacramento area. Both boys were tremendous wrestlers in school which was tough for a single mother who didn't understand anything about wrestling and had to sit next to all those red neck fathers calling her 6'4" son--"Tommy"--(it was also tough on the basketball coach!!)

Although I continually worked full time, after the divorce I went back to school and got a B.S. in Business and an M.B.A. from Sac State. For a period of time when I lived in Denver, I was also in a professional singing/dancing group...partly just cause it was fun!! Music has always been very important to me.

Seven years after I was divorced, I married for the second time. I married into a famous family. Divorced about 6 years later. I am single.

Currently, I am a senior treasury analyst for one of the largest international financial investment firms, and I teach computer science in a couple of the local colleges. The part I like best about my position with the investment firm is that the staff I work with are housed in Luxembourg, Singapore, Dublin, Paris, London, Brazil, and Austrailia. While "office hours" are sometimes difficult to coordinate, it is interesting. However, my heart is in teaching. I may be a "number cruncher", but I am also a "people" person.

I haven't been to Bishop in a few years. My brothers and I moved my ailing parents to Sacramento about four years ago. Seems like when I visited my parents in Bishop, there never seemed to be enough time to do much of anything else. Darn!

My older brother, Joe (Class of '63), is married and lives in Fritz Creek, Alaska. He is a retired Air Force Colonel. My younger brother, Mick (Class of '69), lives in Bellingham, Washington. He is married to his wife of 25+ years, and is a real estate agent.

It would be really good to hear from you. It certainly would put a smile on my face. Have a terrific day!!

I've been living in Yreka, CA for the past 16 years. My wonderful husband is a Private Investigator and I work with him. It's an exciting line of work and we are having the time of our lives!! Both of my daughters, 4 out of 6 grandkids and Dad live here too. Don't get home to Bishop much as all the relatives are gone. Would love to hear from old friends and classmates. I was a freshman for the 63-64 school year, graduating in Missouri in 1967. I then moved to Sullivan, Missouri where I have lived ever since. I still have memories of playing football and running track. Haven't been able to return to Bishop, but remember the beautiful Owens valley.

Since I've been e-mailing back and forth with Tom Getts, Pam Bromley, Sue Joseph and others - I've decided it's time to register with the Alumni!

I'm happy to say that I've been back in Bishop since 1978. My husband, Jerry, and I live in Round Valley (and have been here for the past 16 yrs). I'm one of the lucky few that are able to work from my home.

I work for a gentlemen in Oceanside, CA. He is a business consultant, author and public speaker. I met Lloyd Smigel through my previous employment. Lloyd is the consultant to that business. When he suggested that I come to work with him, I didn't hesitate to change. I handle all his bookings and keep him on track with his scheduling. I host his workshops across the country (mostly traveling to Dallas).

My husband retired a year ago from DWP as "Chief Hydrogapher" for our area. Now all he does is participate in black powder cartridge shooting competitions across the country. I'm pleased to say he was the National Champion in '98 for the cartridge competitions - out shooting 230+ competitors.

The easiest way to reach me is via my e-mail address or you can visit my work website at: www.lloyd-smigel.com.

It's been so very long ago, I sat in a homemaking class and watch Mrs. Hedgecock show us the new oven!!! the Micowave !!! wow, It melted butter in sec. and we got pop-corn in a paper bag!!!!

We have sure came a long ways, from watching men walking on the moon, the vet-nam war to now to be able to chat with some on the other side of the world!!!!

Many of you may not remember me, I too was quite shy... And my high school years were hell for me. But you should see me now!!!!! I been working in a prison for 12 years, ride motorcycles, in fact planning on a 15 state loop on my bike for vacation, and have a tattoo buss. on the side. And yes I have a few!!! I live just on the other side of the mountains from Bishop, in Corcoran Calif. That 50 miles north of Bakersfield. And I too would sure love hear from all.

Gillespie, Denise Goff (Ray) - E-mail: gdgillespie@verizon.net

I'm one of the lucky ones living and working in Bishop. Began working for the City of Bishop as Assistant City Clerk in March 1999 after raising four children and working as a school site secretary for 13 years in Big Pine. Lots of changes in the past six years -- divorced, changed jobs, moved back to Bishop and married Gary Gillespie (Class of 70) in July 2000.

My kids are all grown -- three daughters and one son. Three of them live here in town and one daughter goes to San Diego State studying nursing. Three of them graduated from Bishop High making it the third generation. I have two grandsons which Gary and I enjoy entertaining (or is it the other way around). Life is really good.

I drive past Bishop High every day on my way to work. You won't believe the changes in just the last year. A new classroom building is under construction where the parking lot used to be and all the houses on the corner of Pine and Fowler have been demolished and a new parking lot paved in their place. They still have graduation on the front lawn.

There is a group of us that has worked on all the reunions since graduation. We are due for another reunion summer of 2003 (35). Would love to hear from classmates who we've lost touch with.

My wife Rachelle and I are living in Lakeview, Oregon with her sister's two teenagers who are 14 and 15. Adding two teenagers to the house has been a real challenge! We love the rural life that eastern Oregon offers. Rachelle and I are both wildlife biologist, although she is currently working for the Forest Service as the area NEPA Coordinator. My current project is studying pygmy rabbits but we have both been involved with work on bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, mule deer and sage grouse over the past few years. Our interests are family, fishing, hunting, camping, rock collecting and photography. Greetings to any former classmates who read this. My e-mail address is galorton@yahoo.com

It's interesting to make contact with my past like this. Unfortunately I had a bit of a brain tumor so I don't recall much about those days, but it's good for me to keep touch. I've been working on a masters degree in teaching ESL/EFL with the idea of going overseas, but who knows?

I'm divorced at this time. I have 4 sons, one of whom is in the 82nd airborne. The other three are yet young. I look forward to hearing from my classmates to hear what they can tell me about those times: 64-68.
